I spent two hard weeks training my Instagram feed to show me 90% landscape painting and 10% racist memes. It worked for a while. Then I wake up one morning and can't find a single landscape painting (and only a few scattered racist memes). For days, my feed showed me nothing but reports of murdered girls and celebrity slop. I'm retraining it now.

I don't think this algo "cares" about what you want to see. It seeks to change what you think you want to see by constantly drifting away from what is good and true and into an infinitude of slop. It wants to drain your mind, spark outrage, and replace you with something dull. The Body Snatchers strike again.
