The book I was teaching earlier today had a page with quotations from different people. Found one by Mencken, and I had to add others that were a little better
Owen Benjamin, Pete Quinoñes, Candace Owens.
Sometimes I think these people exist to discredit a movement. I have never been a Candace Owens fan. I’ve always found her emotionally and intellectually brittle. But her new rise in the past couple years started attracting the attention of people I do respect. But as is frequently the case it seems to be because she is saying things they agree with.
But like many before her, she now seems to be heading off a cliff, and taking a lot of the knee-jerkers with her.
To paraphrase from Malice: They didn’t stop at one red pill, they dumped the whole Costco-sized bottle down their throats.
I don’t like blanket labeling people as grifters. It’s frequently a cheap unthinking dismissal. It’s possible she completely believes all of her shit. Owen Benjamin seems to and he’s not better off for it.
