I'm no expert on Venezuela and I'm also fairly biased with regards to recent events there. That being said there's an obvious thing that I'm completely missing or that other people aren't addressing:
Venezuela still has a vice president and a standing army. Americans don't have the oil yet and haven't ruled out an escalated prolonged military conflict to get the oil. Do Americans expect Venezuela to give them everything they want just because?
This may very well be a mercantilist lay-up but it seems that people are taking their victory laps prematurely.
I had a conversation with an LLM where I asked it a question about a controversial topic. When it gave a reply I thought was wrong, I implied as much in my next prompt, so its next reply better matched my beliefs! This proves that my opinion was correct the whole time and is not a reflection of what LLMs are actually designed to do.
