First, the good news. I saw Heart tonight. It was fucking rad. I'm not even much of a concert-goer, I'm the Steely Dan type, I prefer to listen to the polished and professionally produced studio version with all background noises off. But for some old farts (these Rock and Roll Royalty are 70+ now!), they did rock pretty hard. Actually, they're cute about it, too. For all the cred Nancy Wilson gets as a rocker, she's sweet as a peach, and Ann even more so. Ok ok so I saw Heart, big whoop, the real reason I'm sharing is Nancy shared a good story that @holla2040, maybe @Malice and others would appreciate.
There was a break where the lights came down, and it was just Nancy sitting on a stool by herself in a spotlight, and she recounted a story to the audience. She said back when their band was off the ground but still pretty mid, their agent booked them as the opening act for Van Halen. Van Halen didn't mind, they knew of them from the radio, but they never saw them play. After the first show of that tour, Eddie walked up to Nancy after the show and said "Dude, you're an amazing acoustic guitarist!" Nancy of course added to us, "I was just happy he didn't add, 'for a girl,' ha." She asked him if he played it much, and he said not really. He had an old one that he learned to play on, but once he got good --and I mean, Eddie Fucking Van Halen good-- at electric guitar, he really never brought his old shitty hand-me-down one out anymore, and he'd become famous for playing the electric, so... no, he kinda left that behind.
Nancy said "So wait, the only acoustic guitar you have is an old shitty one?" He said "Yeah." She says "Ok, out of principle, no self-respecting musician should be without a decent acoustic guitar." The next day, she bought him a nice all-white brand new one from whatever music store was in the town they were in back then.
That night, they had another show in another town, and she went to bed in the hotel room after. The next morning, she gets a call from the hotel phone at like 5am, the sun's not even up. It's Eddie. He's stoked. "Nancy, thank you SO MUCH for this acoustic guitar, I forgot how rad this shit is. I've been up ALL NIGHT playing it, look I came up with another song." "Eddie, it's friggin'.... before dawn, dude." "Wait wait Nancy, listen to this though!" And he starts playing this tune over the shitty hotel phone while she's rolled over in bed a few floors away, and she can't even remember how exactly it went, and it was probably never recorded or heard by anyone again. But it was pretty fucking sweet.
So in honor of his passing a few years ago, she had been working on a solo album, and she put together an acoustic song called "For Eddie" on it. She played it for us, it was a sweet medley of Van Halen songs all on acoustic. Started off with a weird classical sounding slow version of Jump, blended into Eruption, transitioned into Hot For Teacher I think... I kinda lost track in the middle, but it was a fun song. More importantly, what a cool fucking story. R.I.P. Eddie, what a legend and a great dude.
RFK Jr. said he used to snort cocaine off the seat of a toilet…that’s gross. We used to do it off the tank.
Honestly though, fuck this winter. This weather is making me sad and angry. I've been doing my best to manifest some snow over here but I feel like I'm having the opposite effect. I've been diligent to go up to skin around the xc trails almost every weekend and I haven't gone off trail once. I feel like my joy is leaking away from me. The weather report says to expect 2" today. It dribbled a few flakes around noon but it wasn't enough to even get anything damp.
Ughh
This summer could be brutal for fires. Maybe it'll open up more terrain?
