Just found out that great uncle of mine, James Taylor, who worked as a chem technician on the Manhattan Project doing some of the earliest reactor work, was previously a driver for ranking Army staff/Generals and one of his details was driving Marlene Dietrich around to different commands on her USO tour, I believe the earlier 1944 Italy leg of her North Africa/Italy tour, but I don't know for certain it wasn't the Battle of the Bulge tour she did.
To her credit, Marlene did stay in tents on the front lines for many a night, and entered Germany with advancing Allied troops.
She was, in James' words, a "royal bitch", and he immediately asked when he found out my mom was dating a Dietrich whether there was any relation. There is none that I know of.
