Marla was kind enough to surprise with a box of 70+ protein bars. I've been eating a different one every day.
here are my thoughts so far
Balance Caramel nut blast: standard dry peanut butter chocolate paste bar. Not getting any caramel taste.
Balance Yogurt honey peanut: Tastes pretty much like peanut butter with a little bit of that artificial vanilla taste.
Clif builders Chocolat; the standard protein bar chocolate covered wafer. Definitely on the dry side. Just ok.
Clif builders Cookies and cream: quite dry and not very flavorful. Would not have guessed that this was cookies and cream (which is a very strong taste), more like some vague chocolate. The tastelessness is inexcusable given the 280 calorie count—more than a Hershey’s bar!
Epic Coconut lime: very chewy texture, the lime is more on the lime juice side, not really that nice. Not getting coconut other than texture of the shavings.
Evolve Peanut butter and jelly: kind of like a granola texture in that it is varied, but the taste is quite good and really does evoke peanut butter and jelly. This one was a pleasant surprise.
Fit Joy Chocolate peanut butter: dryish straightforward typical peanut butter chocolate paste bar. Decent.
Fit Joy Grandma’s lemon square: needless to say nothing grandma about this. The contrast textures between the soft center and crunchy outside are great. Light lemony (not lemon candy) taste. This is a good one.
GoMacro Coconut and almond butter chocolate chip: very chewy and has a fatty subtlety to it that is not pleasant. Quite bland otherwise, especially for 270 cals.
GoMacro Sunflower butter and chocolate: completely tasteless. Maybe a hint of sunflower. It’s like a protein bar that lost its soul.
Larabar Cashew cookie: pretty bad crumbling, falling apart paste texture. Taste is pretty mild and characterless, nutty and sweet
Larabar Cherry pie: much better texture than usual, and not dry. Nice mild sweet taste, a fun treat.
Larabar Chocolate chip cookie dough: The melted chips are a real treat! Surprisingly moist, this one is fun and a joy.
Larabar Cinnamon roll: Interesting fruitcake texture, good mild flavor. Nothing cinnamon roll about it though, just like a fruit bar with some nuts.
Luna Chocolate peanut butter: typical chocolate peanut butter bar. A bit chewy but still quite good
NuGo Brownie crunch: great natural chocolate taste. Not too try and not too pasty. Above average.
NuGo Crunchy peanut butter: very dry, and very much on the bland side. Not a good one.
NuGo Strong Dark chocolate Caramel: mild chocolate taste, really pleasant mixed crunchy texture. Not getting much caramel.
ONE Blueberry cobbler: All I’m getting is a cloying sweet vanilla flavor paste bar.
ONE Cookies and cream: Vanilla not cookies n creme. Tasted extremely artificial to the point of medicinal. Not good
ONE Maple donut: that unpleasant pasty texture. Maple flavor isn’t too strong and fairly nice. A bit medicinal aftertaste but not too bad as a whole.
Primal Coconut cashew: Easily the worst to date, horrific. Tastes like some sort of strong melty cheese. Tough to chew as well.
Pro meal Superfood slam: it’s like a biscuit they’d give an animal at the zoo, like dates and nuts blended together. The taste is fine but the shape and texture really make you think of prechewed, dried food.
Promax Double fudge brownie: basically just a stick of chocolate paste of two different textures.
Quest Blueberry muffin: dryish and has that artificial sweetener taste. You get a hint of blueberry like the fake stuff they put into blueberry pie but more cakey and frankly just characterless.
Quest Carmel chocolate chunk: it’s that weird hard paste texture but the chunks of caramel make this better than average. Not getting much chocolate though
Quest Maple waffle: pretty bad. Texture is quite chewy, a lot of that fake sweetness chemical taste, a hint of maple and also tastes scorched.
Quest White chocolate raspberry: dry to the point of powdery but taste is really quite good except for hint of fake chemical sweetener. Solid.
RXBar Blueberry: taste is quite mild but does genuinely taste like blueberry, which is unusual. Very chewy.
RXBar Chocolate sea salt: very dry. The salt is nice but clashes with the chocolate, which tastes more like carob or something and is much milder than the cashews. Kind of all over the place.
Special K Chocolate cherry nut: very much gives a hint of a cherry cordial but mostly that indistinct protein bar peanut flavor. Not very good.
Special K Fruit and Salted Nut: basically a granola bar heavy on the salted peanuts
Tahoe Peanut butter chocolate: pretty much just a decent granola bar. Not really getting peanut butter chocolate as the flavor.
Think thin Honey drizzle peanut: That very typical chocolate peanut butter bar. Exactly what you’d expect.
Think! Lemon delight: lemony, sweet and artificial tasting. Powdery texture too. Not pleasant
Tigers milk Rich protein: just straight peanut butter (like a butterfinger flavor) with chocolate over it.
