This guy climbed into my chicken run in broad daylight last week and killed most of my chickens, mostly for sport as only one was taken and several were left dismembered. Only one managed to somehow escape unharmed.
A part of me feels bad that he's going to die now, but he didn't feel bad when he was killing and now he knows where to get chickens so he'll return if I don't take action.
These thoughts honestly feel like they tie into the "suicidal empathy" so many people, especially women, suffer from in our society. Substitute the raccoon with something else. The pattern is there. How many current US women wouldn't take action like killing the raccoon?
As for my lone chicken, my neighbors were actually getting ready to re-home their flock so we took a few. Win-win as our chicken now has buddies and their children picked out some favorites they can now visit.
