It's been a long week in my little town. A guy killed his daughter and shot his son and wife before killing himself. Mom and the son are recovering but she's missing a kidney and some intestines and the kid is going to need some degree of cosmetic surgery on his cheek/jaw.
The community has already prepared a house for them to live, so they never have to go back and there's a crowd fund going to take care of all expenses. Our hospital staff stabilized them enough to fly them to out to Oklahoma City. I could not be more proud to live here.
My mom is the most experienced ER nurse we have and this is the most shaken up I've seen her for as long as I can remember. She's always said the doctor that was on call is the best trauma doctor she's ever known and his opinion is that the kid was a few minutes from being gone. There was some kind of debrief today at the hospital with first responders, ER staff, counselors, etc. My mom mentioned that the admins from out of town were really impressed by the cooperation between the ER staff and EMTs because apparently that isn't as common as you'd hope.
Anyway, if you're still reading, prayers would be really appreciated.
