We pulled into Homer mid afternoon last Friday. I knew right away this was the place. The town is southern facing and thinly developed on the staircase hills. The majority of houses have spectacular and unobstructed views. The view to the south is Kenai Fjords National Park, Kachemak Bay State Park and Kachemak Bay. To the west is the Cook Inlet and the Katmai Peninsula with its various volcanoes. Like Kodiak commercial fishing is a prime industry in Homer (Halibut Capitol of the World), as is tourism and farming. Continuing with the Homer / Kodiak comparison: same population, less wind, less rain, more sun, a little more snow, less ice, cheaper food, gas and housing, much better growing conditions and less isolation. We didn't know because how could we know, but Kodiak is regarded as a hard place to live by mainlanders. That was OK because Deb and I needed to be toughed up a bit, but now we are ready for Homer. We are going to try and move asap. Please pray that He clears the way for us and employment and housing come quickly.
