The last few months,I’ve been having small overages on my internet billl and couldn’t figure out where the extra data was going. I figured it had something to do with my wife and I getting new iPhones and iPads, and having to download hundreds of GB from iCloud during the initial set ups. Then this month’s bill hit and the overage was massive. Like $100+ over.
I got suspicious and I changed the password on our router. Sure enough, a few hours later our neighbor calls and asks if our internet is working. After a few minutes of trying to avoid my questions, he admitted that he’s been running his internet off our router for the last few months.
A while back, I gave him the password when he came over so he could connect his tablet and transfer some files to me. From what I gathered, at some point he couldn’t afford his unlimited phone internet plan anymore, so back in January he just started using our connection. He’s retired and on disability, so he just sits around all day watching TV and surfing the web.
The sad thing is that he’s a good guy and I’ve always trusted him. But now that friendship has been damaged because, instead of asking if he could use our internet here and there, he just wholesale switched over to it and thought we wouldn’t notice. Good neighbors really are hard to find.
